Singing Schools
At Longborough C of E Primary School, we are proud to be one of Longborough Festival Opera’s Singing Schools.
Longborough Festival Opera (LFO) have a vision that every child should have the opportunity to sing together. They want to enable schools to build a school choir that meets weekly and works on a wide variety of repertoire and style, promoting singing as a feel good, collaborative and inspirational activity.
One of LFO’s chorus masters visits our school each week throughout the school year. They work on improving the singing of all children and general musicianship.
Activities covered included:
Composing songs with verses written by different classes.
Performances in local care homes and at community events.
Performances to parents and peers on a regular basis.
Harmonisation and part singing
Score reading and flashcards to learn rhythm and notation.

Nurture
All children’s enjoyment and enthusiasm of a variety of musical genre will be nurtured through tuned and untuned instruments being available in class to use / experiment with during music lessons and regularly listening to different styles of music. All children will be encouraged to share how the music makes them feel and share their likes and dislikes.
Cherish
Children have access to valuable instruments that they are trusted to use and care for. These will be used during high quality music lessons and all children will be encouraged to also use their voices expressively as an instrument.
Shine
Children perform to parents and or peers as a way to demonstrate and celebrate their learning and shine as both individuals and a group.
Flourish
Children regularly demonstrate their enjoyment of different types of music from classical to modern. Children will be encouraged to share their likes and dislikes using musical language they have learnt.
Purpose of Study
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.
